As my sophomore year is coming to an end and many of my friends who are seniors are beginning their lives, we all ask ourselves "what should we do now?" In todays world we are always worried about what is going to happen in the future, thats why many of us go to college so that we can have a successful future. However, many of us don't think about what we should be doing with our time right now. Many times I find myself procrastinating to the max and avoiding doing anything productive.
The Lord recently has placed on my heart James 4:13-15 which states "Now listen, you who say, "today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money." why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. what is your life? you are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, "if it is the Lord's will, we will live and do this or that." He has opened my eyes to realize that I need to live for God now. I always tell myself "I can share the gospel with that person later" or "Ill make it to church next Wednesday" However, the Lord has shown me that we are not guaranteed until then so we need to do his work every moment we can. This doesn't mean you should drop out of school and become a full time missionary, only do that if you are called to do so. But, it does mean that instead of watching Netflix for three hours read your bible, instead of eating alone at lunch go eat with someone and pray for them, and instead of doing homework all night long take a hour to go to church and find rest in the Lord. I struggle with this daily and as college is getting harder and shorter I tend to struggle even more. Its easy to let the worldly task you have get in the way of doing what the Lord wants you to in the moment but, I encourage you to listen to the Lord, be obedient, and make more time for him throughout your day. It takes time and it will take a different mind set but it possible when you listen and are obedient. I am still trying to figure it out myself.
For seniors, you are entering a different part of the Lords plan for you. Some might not know what that is yet but, whats beautiful is that the Lord knows every step of the way. Trust him with your future and while you are waiting on him to reveal it to you, spend your time getting to know the Lord and doing his work. I encourage you to thank the Lord daily for setting your plan, ask him to show you what you are suppose to be doing right now for him, and then be obedient to what he leads you to do.
Prayer of the week: If you are like me, still in college, and getting overwhelmed with your earthly tasks pray that the Lord will give you peace and a clear mind to see what you are meant to be doing in His name. Be thankful for where you are and for all the stress and handwork you have now because it will be worth it. If you are a senior who is graduating pray that you are being obedient and following the Lords plan for you and your future also, be thankful that the Lord helped you through college and gave you strength to make it to the end and to trust him through it all.
